چکیده

Before any interventional radiology procedure, including biopsy and abscess drainage, patients should have testing to determine the complete blood count (including platelet count), activated partial thromboplastin time and international normalized ratio. The tests should be done as close to the time of the procedure as possible. For stable patients, the timing of blood tests should be within one week of the procedure, in general.

New oral anticoagulants and perioperative management of anticoagulant/antiplatelet agents.

BACKGROUND The strategy of whether to continue anticoagulation and antiplatelet agents during surgery depends on an evaluation of the thromboembolic risk and haemorrhagic risk of the individual patients. Procedures that carry a significant risk of bleeding may require temporary cessation of the medication. OBJECTIVE We briefly review the use of common oral anticoagulant and antiplatelet agent...

Managing the Antithrombotic Therapy After Percutaneous Coronary Intervention in Patients on Oral Anticoagulation.

In patients on chronic oral anticoagulation (OAC) who are undergoing a percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI), dual antiplatelet therapy (aspirin and a P2Y12 inhibitor) is required. However, combining dual antiplatelet therapy with OAC increases the risk of bleeding. Newer and stronger P2Y12 inhibitors also add more complexity to the regimen, as these antiplatelet agents are currently recomme...

Pharmacologic agents in stroke prevention, acute stroke therapy, and interventional procedures.

Pharmaceutical agents have moved far beyond just the aspirin and heparin that were the mainstays of stroke and interventional therapy as recently as 10 to 15 years ago. Our understanding of the mechanisms of thrombus formation and vascular response to damage as well as our armamentarium has tremendously improved in the past decade. Direct thrombin inhibitors, powerful antiplatelet agents, new f...

We present a case of a 41-year-old man with symptomatic pulmonary cement embolism following percutaneous vertebral augmentation, which was successfully retrieved via a percutaneous endovascular approach, a novel technique with only two prior cases reported. Cement leakage, including venous embolization of cement into the cardiopulmonary circulation, is a known potential complication following p...
